Jessica and Doug

So after years of procrastination it looks like Jessica and Doug are finally getting married. What’s even stranger perhaps, is that Doug seems to have started writing in the third person. He claims it sounds better when referring to both parties involved because it would be weird if he said “Jess and I are getting married.” How is the reader supposed to know exactly who “I” is referring to on a website about two specifically different people?
